Ecuador: Change of regime, change of values

Show: false / Country: Latin America /
According to Vistazo on 4 May 2017, the newly elected president of Ecuador states that he is in favor of "contraceptive sex education because women should have the right not to conceive". Previously, the government under President Rafael Correa had promoted sexual abstinence and had been strongly criticized as a result. Now - in line with election promises - the Alianza Pais party intends to implement a United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) project. Rossana Ramirez, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, comments: ""The Family Plan Strategy" promoted by the former Ecuadorian president was considered a great setback for the so-called "˜sexual and reproductive rights" of women. Since the newly elected president wishes to promote sexual and reproductive rights, it is no surprise that he is cooperating with UNFPA. UNFPA follows a very clear gender agenda, which aims to remove religion from the public realm and includes limiting the right of Christians and other parents to educate their children according to their beliefs on these issues."
