Greece: The crisis within the crisis "“ Attacks on Christian refugees

A United Nations report for May 2018 states that the number of migrants in Greece stood at 60,000, including more than 14,000 in camps on the islands of Lesbos, Chios, Kos, Samos and Leros. World Watch Monitor (WWM) reported on 10 July 2018, Christians are being exposed to (sexual) harassment and humiliation and attempted forced conversion to Islam at these camps. In one example in Larissa camp on 24 June 2018, five Iranian converts to Christianity and two children were violently threatened by a mob of Muslims armed with knives and told to leave. An article by Orthodox Christianity published on 22 July 2018 claims that Christians in Moria camp are being prevented from praying, worshiping and holding church services. Rachel Niko, comments: "According to the International Christian Consulate (quoted by WWM above), non-Muslims make up 2-4% of the total migrant population reaching Europe"s shores. Christians, who have been forced to flee their countries because of war and persecution now discover they are also being targeted in the refugee camps because of their faith. The Greek government currently prevents Christian refugees fleeing persecution in the camps from applying for asylum and getting help from the UN."
