India/UK: Government-level talks on persecution of Christians

Show: false / Country: Europe /
On 14 May 2019 the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times reported that the UK government "would take up with Indian authorities cases of alleged persecution of Christians in India". The article referred to a review commissioned by the UK Foreign Office highlighting the situation of Christians in India. ‚  Rolf Zeegers, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, believes this is the first time that one of the major newspapers in India has mentioned the possibility of government discussions about the persecution of the Christian minority: "The Hindustan Times even mentioned Open Doors including India in the top ten of the World Watch List published in January 2019. It is to be hoped that the discussions at government level will have a positive result for Christian communities throughout India."
