UK: New bill could mean prison for preaching the supremacy of Christ

Show: false / Country: Europe /
Christian Concern reported on 24 January 2017 on the debate held in the House of Lords on 18 January 2017 concerning the proposed Policing and Crime Bill. This bill seeks to make the penalty for racially or religiously aggravated offences 14 years in prison. One of the points discussed was that the bill would seem to give Muslims the right, on hearing a Christian preaching the supremacy of Christ, to regard that as a religiously aggravated offence. David Davidson, working at World Watch Research, comments: "As Andrea Williams, Chief Executive of Christian Concern points out, the UK Government does not seem willing to defend free speech which could be offensive and so the Christian Legal Centre will have a busy future defending Christian preachers in court. If the bill is passed, Christians publicly referring to Jesus Christ as Lord of all will potentially risk prison sentences. We see here how politicians are once more pushing religion - in particular the Christian faith - out of the public domain and silencing Christian witness."
