Uganda: Machete attack on Christians in church

Show: false / Country: Uganda /

International Christian Concern reported on 22 June 2023 that suspected Islamic militants staged a machete attack on Christians inside an Anglican church in Kakumiro District in western Uganda. One Christian was killed and several were injured. Meanwhile, as reported by VOA News on 19 June 2023, Ugandan authorities have arrested over 20 persons potentially linked to the ADF school massacre of 37 students on 16 June 2023 (The Independent, 24 June 2023). The army also announced that three of the six abducted students had successfully been rescued (Al-Jazeera, 21 June 2023).

World Watch Research analyst Yonas Dembele comments: “The recent attacks on Christians in western Uganda have occurred where ADF operates and has significant levels of support within some local communities. Such attacks harm whole families and create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the local Christian population.”
