Colombia: Regulations for child euthanasia underway

Show: false / Country: Colombia /
According to Noticias Caracol reporting on 1 March 2018, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has been ordered to comply with a decision made by the Constitutional Court of Colombia and provide everything necessary for guaranteeing severely or terminally ill children and adolescents the right to a "dignified death". Regulations for child euthanasia are currently being drafted. Rossana Ramirez, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, comments: "It is not the first time that the Colombian Constitutional Court acts as a legislative power without taking the views of wider segments of society into consideration. The worrying thing is that government institutions are not questioning such decisions and are taking all Court resolutions as law and comply with no objections. If the draft proposals already published are approved, children will be allowed to make life-or-death decisions even against the will and guidance of their parents. For Christian families, who wish to protect life and value each human life as a gift from God, this will undermine their right to choose the medical treatment for their children according to their values and beliefs."
