Kenya: Al-Shabaab kills Christians in coastal Kenya - again

Show: false / Country: Kenya /
International Christian Concern, quoting Morning Star, reported on 5 Februray 2016 that al-Shabaab had once again killed Christians in a raid on a village in coastal Kenya. According to the report, at least four Christians were killed in Poromoko and Kaisari villages in Lamu County. Open Doors field researchers confirmed the attack and indicated that a survivor is receiving treatment in a local hospital. Al Shabaab"s spokesman told Al-Jazeera (reporting on 31 January 2016): "Our fighters attacked non-believers in the occupied Muslim land of Lamu. Our Mujahideen killed several non-believers in the attack. We will give more details later." Yonas Dembele, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, comments: "Al-Shabaab has committed many cross-border raids in which hundreds of Christians have lost their lives. This was epitomized last year by the killing of at least 147 students at Garissa University in April. Christians, especially those living in the coastal and northeastern regions, usually face the brunt of the brutal attacks orchestrated by al-Shabaab. On each occasion, the Kenyan government has vowed to defeat the group and bring the perpetrators to justice. Yet the attacks continue and Christians suffer. The fact that the African Union forces are fighting al-Shabaab in Somalia should not deflect the Kenyan government"s and international community"s attention away from the impact of al-Shabaab in Kenya."
