Show: false / Country: Mozambique /
As reported by France24 on 23 June 2021, the 16-member Southern African Development Community (SADC) has approved the deployment of troops to help Mozambique combat the Islamic State group insurgency.‚  This is the first time that the stand-by force will be used in a non-peacekeeping role. World Watch Research analyst Yonas Dembele comments: "Mozambique"s northern province of Cabo Delgado has been experiencing instability for several months due to the activities of fighters affiliated to the Islamic State group. The SADC troops are expected to help rid the northern region of militant groups and bring respite to the Christian community who have been the most affected in attacks."
