According to Nicaragua Investiga reporting on 17 June 2022, Rosario Murillo announced that the Sandinista Youth is organizing a Christian music concert to be held in August.
World Watch Research analyst Rossana Ramirez comments: The vice-president (who is also the wife of President Daniel Ortega) made this announcement following a meeting with over 100 church leaders. But why would an organ of the ruling socialist party wish to plan such an event? This is clearly an attempt by the ruling party to present itself as positively supporting Christian faith while at the same time actively oppressing all church opposition, much of which is linked to the Roman Catholic Church. It also demonstrates that the ruling party has enough authority to organize religious activities (as happened in the past with processions and pilgrimages) even when church leaders do not support them.”
