North America: Christians in trouble in secularized society

Show: false / Country: Advocacy /
Canada: As reported by Life Site News on 28 March 2019, a Christian activist has been given a court fine of $55,000 for distributing flyers in 2017 in which a transgender politician was referred to as a "˜biological male". The fine is seen as being compensation for injury to the politician"s dignity, feelings and self-respect. USA: As reported by Christian Post on 26 March 2019, nursing and education students from Christian colleges are not being accepted at some state-funded hospitals and schools for employment or internships programs due to the Christian colleges" position on family and marriage. WMC News reported on 30 March 2019 that the state-funded Compass Community Schools network are likely to face legal issues after signing a contract for leasing classroom space from the Catholic Diocese of Memphis. The leasing-contract contained a clause specifying that nothing should be taught which goes against the teachings of the Catholic Church. Rossana Ramirez, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, comments: "The cases outlined above show that hate-speech laws and non-discrimination provisions (as well as a radical understanding of Church-State separation) are limiting the free expression of Christian faith and values and are seriously affecting the running of Christian schools and organizations in North America. Many Christians holding faith-based values are being restricted in their personal development as these values are viewed as being discriminatory by society and the authorities, both of which are currently under the influence of an alternative set of "˜faith-based" views."
