Bangladesh: Series of Christian killings continues

Show: false / Country: Bangladesh /
On 5 June 2016, a Catholic shop-owner was killed in his shop in Bonpara, Rajshahi State, as reported by AsiaNews. Thomas Muller, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, explains: "The series of killings carried out by Islamic militants against everyone perceived deviant - be they atheist, Hindu or Christian - continues unabated. Whereas Christians with a Muslim background are especially targeted, not just for killing, but for rape and other forms of attack as well, the incident in Bonpara shows that traditional Christians are being targeted as well. Government authorities continue to deny that these killings have anything to do with the so-called Islamic State, which frequently claims responsibility for the killings, but accuses instead Islamic militant groups who have links with the opposition party. In any case, Christians are beginning to feel increasingly insecure and are starting to ask what the authorities are doing to combat the growing insecurity."
