India: Haryana State to introduce anti-conversion legislation

Show: false / Country: India /
According to International Christian Concern reporting on 23 February 2021, Haryana State's Home Minister announced on 18 February that he had instructed state officials to draft an anti-conversion law with the aim of preventing attempts at religious conversion by unethical means. Rolf Zeegers, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, comments: "Unlike Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, there have hardly been any reports of religious persecution in Haryana State to date. This is quite remarkable since the state has been ruled by a BJP-dominated government since 2014. It would seem that the Hindu nationalist BJP is aiming to pass anti-conversion laws in all states under its control."
