Nepal: Two Christians arrested for encouraging conversion

Show: false / Country: Nepal /
As reported by the website, Nepal Church, US citizen Bradley Navarro Anagaran was arrested on 21 June 2019, when police found him in possession of leaflets containing Christian teaching. When Pastor Hira Singh Sunar went to the police station for information on the matter, he was also arrested. Both Christians were taken to court, charged with attempting to induce conversion to Christianity and were released on bail. Rolf Zeegers, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, comments: "The arrest of the two Christians in Nepal so soon after previous arrests in April 2019 (International Christian Concern, 24 April 2019) shows that religious freedom in the country is deteriorating. The possession of Christian materials can lead to arrest and this must be seen as a clear warning to all church groups in Nepal."
